This shows waves being reflected by a moving obstacle. The reflected waves vary in frequency due to the Doppler Effect. The horizontal obstacle on the right is moving up and down. (The divider in the middle is just there to make the effect more clear.) When the obstacle is moving up, the reflected waves have a higher frequency than the source. When it's moving down, the reflections have a lower frequency.
